Lower Eyelid Lift in Vienna
Open. Clear. You.
The skin under our eyes is particularly sensitive. Eye bags, fine lines, and excess skin often become visible here first and can make us look tired. A lower eyelid lift ensures radiant eyes and a naturally refreshed appearance.

Lower Eyelid Lift: Small Procedure, Big Impact
During a lower eyelid lift, excess tissue, such as under-eye bags, is removed. This tissue, which is primarily skin and fat, is carefully reduced and the lid tendon is tightened. The result is a more alert and vibrant appearance that looks completely natural.
The procedure is tailored to you: it is precisely adapted to your anatomy and planned with the utmost care. The aim is to accentuate your unique features and restore your radiant gaze. Your natural eye shape will remain unchanged – you will still be completely yourself.
“The procedure is as individual as you are: it is tailored precisely to your anatomical requirements and planned with the utmost care.”
– Dr. Isabelle Sawetz-Paiva
When can a Lower Eyelid Lift help?
A lower eyelid lift is especially useful if:
- bags and sagging lower lids make your face look tired and exhausted.
- persistent swelling under your eyes bothers you.
- you want a fresher, clearer expression.
- you want to make your eyes shine again.
The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the body. The effects of external influences and natural ageing processes are quickly apparent here. Sagging skin and protruding fat pads can cause bags under the eyes, altering your facial expression. A lower eyelid lift can help with pronounced excess skin or weakened muscles.
While the reasons for a lower eyelid lift are usually aesthetic, during the ageing process there may also be functional issues such as weakened lower lid tone, which can lead to increased tearing and chronic conjunctivitis. To ensure the result looks subtle and natural, I adapt the procedure completely to you and your needs.

Lower Eyelid Lift: What to Expect
Before Surgery: Consultation & Planning
Since every eye area is different, I take time to analyze your individual situation. In a detailed consultation, we will discuss your wishes and expectations, and I will create a personalized treatment plan. You will also receive all important information about the surgery process and learn how to best prepare.
Before surgery you should:
- avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin & ibuprofen for about 10 days.
- refrain from nicotine & alcohol.
- undergo an eye exam depending on your condition.
During Surgery: Gentle & Precise
I perform the lower eyelid lift on an outpatient basis at my practice. During the procedure, you will be in twilight anesthesia and feel absolutely no pain.
Depending on the method, the incision is made either from the ‘inside’ (through the conjunctiva, which is invisible from the outside) or just below the lash line.
The internal incision removes excess fat, which is often responsible for the appearance of bags under the eyes. This gentle method preserves the supporting structures of the lower eyelid and prevents unwanted changes, such as a ‘sad look’. Any additional excess skin is gently removed through an incision at the lash line. If necessary, the eye muscle can be tightened and the eyelid margin stabilised to restore elasticity.
The eye area has a very good blood supply, so scars become almost invisible over time. With both options, scarring is minimal.
The procedure takes between 40 and 90 minutes, depending on the extent of the work required. Afterwards, you can rest for a while. Your well-being is my top priority, so rest assured that you will be in safe hands throughout.
After Surgery: Aftercare & Healing Process
Immediately after the operation, it is important to cool the eye area to reduce swelling. I will apply cooling compresses, and after a thorough examination, you can go home.
In the weeks following the operation, you may experience swelling, bruising, and dry eyes. These are completely normal and will subside quickly. The stitches will be removed after 5–7 days, and you can usually return to your everyday routine.
Your Recovery Guide: What to Keep in Mind
- Less is more: allow yourself plenty of rest for optimal healing.
- Avoid sports & sauna for 2 weeks.
- Stay away from direct sunlight, drafts, and extreme cold.
- Do not wear contact lenses for at least 2 weeks.
The final result is visible after about 3 months.
